How can we help?
When should young children have an eye examination?
Many eye-care professionals now have the equipment and expertise to examine young children. We recommend that, if there are no concerns, infants should have their first eye examination at around 6 months of age. If there are no concerns after this examination they should be seen again at around 3 years and then 5 years. The goal of these early examinations is to catch current problems and to prevent future problems such as amblyopia (lazy eye) or strabismus (an eye turn) at an age when treatments are still effective.
